How To Know If You Need New Tires

16 October 2021

Tire maintenance should be considered just as important as regular vehicle maintenance in order to preserve tire life. Tires contribute just as much to road safety as vehicle reliability.

Therefore, it is important to pay particular attention to the signals that your vehicle needs new tires and tips on how to preserve your vehicle tire safety.

1. Prolonged Driving On A Flat.

It should be a good rule to remember to not drive on a flat tire. If you get a flat tire in a situation where you cannot immediately pull over to a safe area to change the flat tire, it is important to pull the vehicle over on the side of the road and away from traffic as soon as possible. Do not continue to drive on a flat tire! It is extremely dangerous!

2. The Tire Tread Wears Down To 4/32 Inch Or Lower.

Tire tread is what helps create traction between the tires and hazardous road conditions. Without traction, your vehicle will slip and slide on wet, icy, or snow roads. Tire tread is best described as the stubbly grooves you can feel and see on the exterior of your vehicle’s tires.

Tire tread can reduce for a number of reasons, including low tire pressure, failure to maintain periodical rotation and alignment, heavy wear, and over or under inflation. Whatever the reason may be, it is important to take note of the tire tread and have the vehicle tires checked on a regular basis.

3. The Tires Are Old.

If you are a regular driver, your tires should be replaced every 4 or 5 years when the tires have travelled 60,000 miles.

4. Your Vehicle Wobbles When You Drive.

Even if you drive carefully at low speeds, if you drive your vehicle on faulty tires, the vehicle will wobble because the tires do not provide a firm foundation to support proper movement. Wobbling is a sign your tires are in dire need of replacement.
